Orphan and Marginal Wells: Lessons Learned and New Opportunities

Amanda Veazey, CRS Energy: Lessons Learned from the Field For both orphan and idle wells, each well is different in many key and important aspects. For that reason, a "one size fits-all" approach to well plugging doesn't work. This talk shares key insights and lessons learned.

Sean Epps, Heath Consultants: The Methane Emissions Measurement Toolbox for Traceable and Transparent Accounting Automate the ACR orphan well measurement protocol for traceability and compliance and streamline the carbon credit approval process for stakeholders. The same can be done for registries as needed. I would like to share lessons learned and methods adopted to overcome some of the unique challenges in the field and how they were individually handled.

Dan Arthur, ALL-LLC: Idle & Orphan Well Plugging: Carbon Credits, Additionality, and the New EPA Methane Rule Several Carbon Registries now offer carbon credits for permanently plugging idle and orphan wells and putting an end to these ongoing and future emissions. However, several concerns regarding additionality have been raised, particularly after the EPA issued a new Methane Rule. This talk will address these issues and help to explain not only additionality, but the methane rule, and how idle & orphan well plugging can continue to be incentives through the various carbon markets and by buyers of both offset and inset credits.
